Day 19 - January 19th - On the Beach at Fort Myers
And so, after 19 days, we finally reached a temperature that allowed us to get into shorts!!
At last! Shorts! |
Check out those legs! |
The beach, white with powder-like sand, was packed with people who were catching the sun, or just strolling along with friends and families.
The sand was like flour! |
From the end of the pier |
There were a few children playing in the water, and some were para-sailing out in the bay (something which we are planning to do in the Keys).
Seawater - cold but refreshing! |
Numbed feet, but happy! |
Looking forward to doing this in the Keys |
The water was very, very cold - but after a few seconds, you were numb enough to feel nothing! So, it was enjoyable to walk along the water's edge.
At the end of the pier, there were two pelicans who had quietly established places of their own where they sat, not bothered by the closeness of human visitors wishing to capture their proximity on camera. There were signs that requested people not to disturb or touch them, as they were wildlife and should be respected as such.
Mark - shades of St. Francis of Elliot Lake - got as close as he could so that he could get to know his new friend!
'St. Francis of Elliot Lake' does it again! |
I'm here to stay, so get used to it! |
At the end of the day, we took our friends, Vera and Sylvia, out for a meal to thank them for their kindness and hospitality over the last few days. The University Grill, in Fort Myers, is a great place to eat, with a varied menu and attentive waiting personnel.

It has been a welcome break from being on the move, and we now feel replenished to start up again on Tuesday.
