At the End of the Road...

At the End of the Road...

After a relaxing day with the pussycats, yesterday, we decided to take a short trip in the evening to the end of Eagle Bay Road, thinking we'd be able to take a stroll along the roadside that runs beside Shuswap Lake.

We had been to the end of that road when we were here, two years ago, but had forgotten just how long that road was! I turned out to be over 20 km!

On the way, we stopped off at Shannon Beach. This beach, like most others on this lake, is very stony, but offers superb views of the lake and surrounding hills and mountains.

When the paved road turned into a gravel surface, we went on a bit further and noticed a turn-off which we had not take the last time. To our delight, we found that it was the entrance to the Wild Rose Bay Community Park, with a decent parking lot and a loop trail that would take us down to the waterside.

It was a well-maintained trail and, in places, reminded us of a switchback, which eased the steepness of the slopes down to the bottom.

After about 20 minutes hiking, the trail left the forest and merge onto the shoreline.

The rocks that jutted out into the lake provided an excellent vantage point, giving us almost 360 degrees of lake surface to capture. It was very peaceful, with only one motorized boat to disturb the tranquility.

We stayed out there for quite a while before heading back to the parking lot. We decided against completing the loop as the trail back that way was longer, a little more challenging, and the light was beginning to fade; so we opted to return the way we came.

Upon leaving the area, we guessed that we would have some nice sunset views to appreciate on our way home - but we were not prepared for the sheer beauty which nature would provide for us.

Finally arriving home, we were just able to catch the last of the sunset vistas from the balcony of the home where we are staying.

We will be forever appreciative of Sharron, who kindly allowed us to stay with her pussycats in her lovely home, with its unforgettable view of Shuswap Lake - right from the comfort of the couch.

We could have stayed at home... but are glad we didn't!
